More than paper, it is a prayer.

Who is this magazine for?

If you love storytelling, explorations of moments-of-grace, and the Catholic literary tradition, this magazine is for you.

We hope to encourage women in all seasons of life to grow in their faith and femininity through reflections and conversations; through encounters with truth, beauty, and goodness within our pages.

Our desire is to create a space for women to share their wisdom and experiences with others; to reflect on their encounters with Christ; and to grow in charity and understanding.

Far from offering fixed prescriptions, we hope to facilitate ongoing conversations and authentic community growth.

  • Our story began in January of 2024, when Sarah reached out to Caitlyn and Philomena with the idea to start a Catholic women’s magazine.
While immediately appealing to all of us, the logistics of writing, photographing, designing, and producing all while attending to our duties as wives and mothers seemed daunting. We set a tentative goal of a spring issue in 2025 and slowly chipped away at each step of the process. Imagine our amazement at finally holding a physical product in March of 2025!
Since then, we have improved our printing and design process for a more timeless, curated feel.

  • Each issue includes original articles written by the co-founders and guest writers, custom photography curated for each issue, and design work completed by our small team.

We fit our writing, design work, and photography in between our duties as wives, mothers, and involved members of our communities. Planning of themes and design begins months in advance, and every issue is surrounded by prayer as we work through each step.

We use a U.S. based printer and are able to mail copies of the journal throughout the U.S.

  • Fr. Augustine Hilander, OP kindly serves as our Spiritual Advisor and reviews each issue’s theological content. We are so grateful for his support!

Fr. Hilander has been a Dominican since 2000 and works at the St. Benedict Retreat Center in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon and is the promoter of the Dominican laity in the Western Province of the United States.

It is important to us that each issue is fully aligned with Church teaching. In addition to content review, all of our contributors sign an agreement to abide by Church teaching, both in their writing and in their lives.

  • The Mustard Seed Press is a twice-yearly Catholic women’s journal.

In 2026, we will offer summer and winter issues. In 2027, we will offer spring and fall issues.

We have set up a subscription bundled option for our printed 2026 issues, and if you are interested in being notified of upcoming release dates and other news, join our emailing list.

What makes us unique?

We have all bought, read, and loved other Catholic journals and magazines. While The Mustard Seed Press shares similarities with other offerings on the market, we have been intentional about creating differences, too. Not because we were unhappy with what was available— no, because what was available excited us to explore what we could create.

The working of God’s grace is so marvelous that every person experiences it through unique and unrepeatable encounters. We can see the importance of storytelling in salvation history— how loss and redemption, suffering and salvation, play out through stories. Biblical typology shows us how God uses both similarities and differences to teach us about His Truth. Just as a gem has many facets but the same beauty, so each of our stories give God glory for His wonderful works.

To put it another way, why did so many of us feel akin to Anne? Why did we identify with Jo March, despite being more like Meg or Beth or Amy? Both Anne and Jo are creations aware that they are operating in the midst of a story. Their triumphs and flaws are showcased by their awareness that they are part of something larger than themselves — something that doesn’t diminish their stories, but rather raises their importance. They are pieces without which the larger puzzle would be incomplete.

We would like to offer encouragement to our readers to see the beauty in their own story, and to trust that God has placed them in a context where their holiness and love for Him may blossom. Just as a mustard seed starts small but grows large, so do we believe that every story, no matter how small, may become an encounter with Christ.

Stories compel us. Tell us yours.
